Description:

  1. Hot Water Treatment before Sowing: to get better germination seeds must be treated in hot water at 800 C for 10 minutes. Then seeds should be soaked in normal water overnight (12 hours). Seeds should be shade dry before sowing for 1 hour.
  2. Hedge Lucerne is a perennial (7 harvest/year) green fodder crop; it comes up to 3-3.5 years. It's rich in protein (20-22 %) and good green fodder for goats, cows, sheep, rabbits & poultry also increases weight gain and improves the productivity of milk yield.
  3. It is grown throughout the year under irrigation and from June - to October as a rainfed crop.
    Sow the seeds at 7-8 kg/acre in a solid stand on the side of the ridges over the lines where fertilizers are applied at a depth of 2 cm and covered with soil. 
  4. Irrigate immediately after sowing, life irrigation on the third day, and thereafter once a week.
    First, cut on the 70-80th day after sowing at 50 cm height and subsequent cuts at intervals of 35-40 days at the same height.
  5. The number of branches per plant is 15-20. Green fodder yield is 100-115 t/acre/year.

Key Feature:
Hedge lucerne is very adaptive and can grow under a wide range of temperatures. It can be grown throughout the year as a multi cut variety under irrigated conditions. All types of soil with good drainage.

Uses:
Dasharat Ghas has leaves and the stem is highly succulent in nature, the green fodder is highly relished by cattle. It contains high protein and less crude fiber and hence higher digestibility recommended green fodder to Cow, Goat, Sheep, Buffalo and some of Poultry and It's suitable for anywhere in India

Soil Nutrient:
Basal: 45: 40 : 40 kg
NPK/ha Top dressing: 45 kg N at 30 days after sowing After each harvest, apply 45 kg N/ha as basal. After the first year apply 45:40:40 kg NPK/ha

Sowing Method: 
1) Preparatory cultivation: Plough 2-3 times to obtain a good tilth. Form ridges and furrows of 6 m long and 60 cm apart. Spread 25 tons of FYM/ha before ploughing and incorporate well.  
2) Spacing 30 x 15 cm (Sow on both sides of ridges)
3) Broadcasting is also suitable for cultivation

Care Instruction:
1) After cultivation = First weeding on 25-30 days after sowing. After each harvest, a wedding may be given before fertilization 
2) Irrigation Once in 7-10 days depending upon soil condition 
3) Plant protection is generally not needed. If shoot fly is noticed, spray Endosulphan 35 EC 500 ml/ha or Dimethoate 30 EC 500 ml/ha in 250 liters of water. Plant protection sprays may be stopped one month before the harvest of green fodder.

Other Feature:
Multicut (8-9 cuts/year) variety, more number of leaves, highly palatable, High Protein. One can harvest 8-9 crops in one year at 35-40 days intervals.
